Cross-Cultural Experiences (CCE)
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update | Last updated June 4, 2020
The health and safety of our students, and entire campus community, is our top priority. While most of our student population are not among those most susceptible to the effects of the virus, we feel it is important to be mindful of the role we play in the broader global community as potential carriers who could be spreading the virus to the communities we were slated to visit or transmitting it back to our home communities. Please review the information below regarding specific CCE terms, and contact the Office of Global Education with any questions.

Summer 2020 CCEs
All summer study abroad, as well as all summer international and domestic Carroll course CCEs are canceled.
The Offices of General and Global Education are working with faculty to make additional spots available in next year’s CCE courses and add courses to the schedule where they can.
Fall 2020 CCEs
All Fall 2020 study abroad and Carroll course CCE travel has been canceled. The in-class portion of Fall 2020 Carroll course CCEs will run even with travel canceled,. We aim to achieve the class learning outcomes in alternate ways, so that students can continue on with their four year plans, including completing CCS400. Students that were planning to study abroad will work with faculty advisors to supplant the coursework through an on-campus path or determine an alternative session to study abroad to fulfill the CCE requirement.
Winter 2021 CCEs
All Winter 2021 study abroad has been canceled. Winter 2021 Carroll course CCEs have been canceled, including the in-class portion. We are aware of the impacts completion of the program has on students’ four year plans; therefore, students that were planning to study abroad will work with faculty advisors to supplant the course work on-campus or determine an alternative session to study abroad to fulfill the CCE requirement. Students who intended to take a Winter 2021 Carroll course should contact their CCE Advisor to discuss alternative options.
Spring 2021 CCEs
We have made the decision to wait and open up our Carroll course CCE applications, the courses led by a Carroll University faculty member, for Spring to Tuesday, September 8th at 12pm. With the uncertainty of what air travel in particular will look like in coming months, this delay in the start date for applications will allow the university to advertise more accurate course travel costs and program availability. This decision, while difficult to make, allows the University and our partners time to prepare for what Spring 2021 will look like worldwide. Please note that at this time, any students planning to take part in a study abroad program, where they are travelling on their own for Spring, will still be able to access the application due to required submissions from partner institutions.
If travel is not possible, Carroll University will still offer CCE courses in Spring 2021 that achieve the class learning outcomes in alternate ways, so that students can continue on with their four year plans, including completing CCS400. We plan to notify students of Spring 2021 travel prior to the beginning of Fall 2020 in hopes that this offers students a chance to work with their advisor before the start date of applications.
